For Professionals:

I mentor professionals who are interested in being cultural change agents. These people are a different breed than your average practitioner, who is largely concerned with supporting the dominant culture’s rules and expectations. Practitioners who are primarily interested in supporting profound and lasting cultural change (by guiding human healing and wholing) are, by nature, radicals and pioneers. There are not many of us. And typically, we live, to an extent, at the edges of popular culture.

We, as practitioners, often call ourselves guides rather than healers, because we know we do not heal anyone; we support people, partnerships and communities to heal themselves. is a very different process than traditional psychotherapy. Regardless of what we call ourselves, and regardless of our training, if our work has formed itself around our greatest desire to be a supportive force for the healing of our human wounding and therefore the wounding of the world, we are soul guides. Soul guides require a very specific form of assistance. This might look quite a lot like ‘clinical supervision’ but it contains a twist which consistently requires that we inquire beneath the surface of symptoms and treatment goals to themes, mytho-poetic stories, core wounds that transcend the diagnostic language of pathologizing and individualizing that is the western medical model.

In this process we account for the unique essential self of each client and we also keep them wisely embedded within the cultural landscape in which they grew and of which they are an inextricable part. We concern ourselves with extended family history and also the things that are less empirically knowable, but no-less essential about a person.
